Tip 1: The babylight - Your child must never again anxiously fall asleep in the dark.
You have taken your child to bed and it is afraid in the dark and therefore can not fall asleep?
No problem with X10: The simplest solution is the "Socket Rocket Starter Kit LK15" and you can comfortably turn the light off in the child's room of your armchair in the living room with the remote control. The "Transceiver TM13" receives the radio signals of the remote control and sends them to the powerline. If your child wakes up in the night - you notice this e. g. through the babyphone - you can simply switch on the light as easy again.
A more elegant solution would be turning off the light automatically with the simulation of a sunset. For this you can use e. g. "ActiveHome Kit CK15 Starter Kit 5 pieces". In the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" a macro is programmed that lowers the brightness level of the "Lamp Module LM12" by 10% e.g. every 10 minutes. You assign that macro its own X10 command (e. g. "A1 On") so you can activate it e. g. with your "Infrared RF X10 EasyControl8 Remote Control" after you have taken your child to bed.

Tip 2: The nightlight - Save energy and nevertheless stand never again in the dark if you have to get up at night.
Everybody knows that: One has to get up at night and in the dark there is the danger to bump oneself and no light switch is in reach.
No problem with X10: The simplest solution is the "Motion Sensor Kit MS13K". The "PIR RF Motion Sensor Hawkeye II MS13" contained in the set gets prepared for the same X10 address like the "Lamp Module LM12". If the motion sensor detects a movement now, it switches the lamp module on automatically. The "Transceiver TM13" receives the radio signals of the motion sensor and sends them to the powerline. In addition, in the motion sensor you can adjust, that it reacts only at darkness and after which time the light is automatically turned off again.
With an intelligent X10 controller like the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" or the "ADI Ocelot" the light could be switched on dimmed by a corresponding macro programming so that one is not exposed to an unpleasant brightness while still being in a light sleep.

Tip 3: The randomizer - Deter potential burglars.
You are not at home, however, you would like to give the impression you are?
No problem with X10: As entry solution the "ActiveHome Kit CK13 Starter Kit 3 pieces" suffices perfect. Simply activate the randomizer in the programming of the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" for the two X10 addresses of the "Lamp Module LM12" and "Appliance Module AM12"contained in the set. The devices (e. g. a lamp and a radio) attached at the two plugin modules are switched on and off randomly now so it seems that someone is at home.
It is even more comfortable with the "ActiveHome Kit CK15 Starter Kit 5 pieces" or the "EasyTouch Home PC Kit ETHPC Starter Kit 5 pieces": Here you very simply can switch on and off the randomizer by a corresponding macro programming in the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" by keystroke on the remote control contained in the set.

Tip 4: The coffee smell-sunrise-alarm clock - Let yourself gently be woken up by sunshine and seductive coffee smell.
Imagine you are woken up gently by the first sunbeams in the morning and the pleasant smell of freshly made coffee lures you from bed.
No problem with X10: As entry solution the "Shutter Control Kit MT10K" with a "Appliance Module AM12" for your coffee machine suffices perfect. In the "Bedroom Controller MT10" you simply set your desired wakeup time and the switch-on time for the coffee machine (first and before your wakeup time, so that the coffee is already ready) and the switch-on time for the "Shutter Switch SW10". In the same way the coffee machine can be also switched off with an adjustable switch-off time if you leave the house and, in the evening, your shutters will automatically close again.
The same can be realized also with an intelligent X10 controller like the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" or the "ADI Ocelot". Then even dependent on your local sunrise and sunset time.

Tip 5: The comfort in your hand - Use your entertainment electronics and lights with the same remote control.
You certainly know this: Your living room table is covered with remote controls for TV, DVD player, HiFi equipment, DVB receiver etc. and to use your lights, you have to get up from your comfortable armchair.
No problem with X10: As reasonable entry solution the "EasyTouch Home Kit ETH1 Starter Kit 5 pieces" suffices. Besides the possibility of control for the X10 receivers you can control up to 7 further devices by infrared signal with the "Infrared RF X10 EasyTouch35 Remote Control". Your entertainment equipment should be covered in every case with that. And, if one of your devices should not be contained in the built-in code library, this is not a problem either - the EasyTouch35 is teachable.
This comfort can be realized also with one of the even more comfortable "Logitech Harmony" remote controls. You then merely need a X10 controller for the X10 control as the "Infrared RF Mini Controller IRRF7243" or "ADI Ocelot", which redirects the received infrared signals as X10 commands into the powerline.

Tip 6: The doorway light at the key - Switch your doorway lights on, only if needed.
An automatic illumination in front of your entrance is nothing special today. But what about the light behind the door? And does your doorway light waste perhaps expensive energy because the motion sensor unintentionally switches the light on also by animals or passers-by?
No problem with X10: The simplest solution is the "Socket Rocket Starter Kit LK15". Simply take the "Key Tag Remote Control KR22" contained in the set with you at your bunch of keys. If you come home in the dark, a keystroke suffices and the light goes on. And, if you just want to switch on your corridor or stairwell lights as well, complete the set with one of these X10 receivers.
Still more comfortable and more elegant the light can be automatically switched with the "PIR RF Motion Sensor Hawkeye II MS13" if there is a little logic, e. g. switch on the light only at certain times of day. This logic can be done very easy with one of the intelligent X10 controllers like the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" or the "ADI Ocelot". Or protect your home with a X10 alarm system, e. g. the "Alarm System RF X10 SafeGuard SC9004 4 pieces" or the "Alarm System RF X10 TotalGuard SC9007 7 pieces". By disarming the alarm system your home "knows", when you come home and thus only lets the X10 motion sensor switch the light on.

Tip 7: The garden surveillance - You know if somebody is on your property unauthorizedly.
Neighbour's mastiff uses your garden as toilet? Playing children from the neighbourhood are magically attracted by your pond and thus bring themselves into danger? By these and similar situations the necessity to be informed if somebody enters your land arises.
No problem with X10: Use e.g. the "Motion Sensor Kit MS13K". Simply attach the "PIR RF Motion Sensor Hawkeye II MS13" from the set to a house wall in the garden so that it can supervise the desired area. Alternatively at the "Transceiver TM13" or the "Lamp Module LM12" you could connect a lamp which signals you if the X10 motion sensor is aware of something in your garden. If the detection shall be acoustically signalled, use the "Universal Receiver Module UM7206" which beeps on request while switching on. If the sensitiveness of the X10 motion sensor does not suffice - for example it does not react on smaller animals like cats etc. - you can also use non-X10 motion sensors which you connect to the "Universal Transmitter Module SM10". And, if you attach a floodlight in addition at one of the X10 receivers, you also reach a certain deterrence effect at darkness and immediately see what is the matter in your garden.

Tip 8: The atmosphere light - The automatic light control which goes by your mood and needs.
You come home after a stressful working day and would like your home directly for the welcoming in idyllic light? Or a party queues and you would like to light house and garden particularly effectively with just a keystroke?
No problem with X10: As reasonable entry solution the "ActiveHome Kit CK15 Starter Kit 5 pieces" suffices. Programme the different light scenes as a macro in the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" and then very simply call them with a keystroke on the "Infrared RF X10 EasyControl8 Remote Control" also contained in the set. And if you want to activate your atmosphere light already in front of the front door, simply take the "Key Tag Remote Control KR22" in addition.
By the way, exactly that simple you can also activate the "cleaning and tidy light" which is possibly necessary after a party. These macros - also called events - can be created and used with every programmable X10 controller. The system is also expandable with further X10 receivers and X10 transmitters and thus can grow with your needs.

Tip 9: The "don't forget the garage door machine" - Is the garage door really closed?
Do your children, your partner or even youself occasionally forget to close the garage door?
No problem with X10: If the gate actuator has a control port (e. g. for an alarm system), simply connect an "Universal Transmitter Module SM10" here. If this port does not exist, put a magnetic contact at the garage door and connect this to the X10 universal transmitter. Now set a X10 receiver to the same X10 address (e. g. "G1") and connect for example a lamp to it. If the light is on, you know that the garage door is open. For sure the remote control for the garage door is not in reach if one needs it, it presumably lies in the car. However, you do not want to go to the garage to close it. Connect an "Universal Receiver Module UM7206" to the "close" input port of the gate actuator and you can close the garage door with every X10 remote control or every other X10 transmitter now.

Tip 10: The alarm light - Let your alarm system switch on the light at triggering.
You have already installed an alarm system in your home and would like it also to switch on the light in case of an alarm, e. g. to deter the burglars in addition?
No problem with X10: Connect an "Universal Transmitter Module SM10" at one of the switching ports of the alarm system. All X10 lamp receivers set to the same House code as the X10 universal transmitter (e. g. "A"), are switched on or alternatively are flashing in case of an alarm.

Tip 11: The automatic shutters control - Have your electrical shutters opened and closed automatically.
You would like to let your electrical shutters open and close by the different sunrise and sunset times automatically? Without having to programme every single switch at time rearrangement newly? Or can your available switches only open and close at fixed times and, in addition, have perhaps an "imaginative conception of time" also?
No problem with X10: Replace the existing shutters switches with the "Shutter Switch SW10". Enter the geographical position of your home in the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" (max. 1 time change/week) or the "ADI Ocelot" (daily time change). The software being part of the respective controller calculates the times applying to your position automatically so that the corresponding macros/events can be created very simply.

Tip 12: The automatic switch - Or the telephonic remote control.
Your X10 home automation is or will not get so extensive that the use of a control PC, e.g. with "HomeSeer", is not reasonable but you do not want to do without the possibility of a remote control from the outside, e. g. to make sure that coffee machine, irons etc. are really turned off?
No problem with X10: You just need the "Alarm RF X10 Controller SC9000". With it up to 16 X10 receivers can be switched on/off directly - pin code protected. Or you choose at once the "Alarm System RF X10 SafeGuard SC9004 4 pieces" or the "Alarm System RF X10 TotalGuard SC9007 7 pieces" to protect your home in addition. If the 16 possible X10 addresses do not suffice for you, you can create macros/events in the "ActiveHome Interface CM11" or "ADI Ocelot" which will switch further X10 receivers on reception of a X10 command.
